Philippines Jeepney

Jeepney

Photographed on F.B. Harrison St, Manila, outside Harrison Plaza shopping center.

The majority of Jeepneys are used as public transport - privately-owned like a taxi, but plying set routes, picking up and setting down passengers on request. Jeepney passenger etiquette is unique. Those in the back pass their fare forward via the other passengers to the driver, and the change is returned in the same manner. To stop, passengers call out "para," or "sa tabi lang po" or double-tap the metal of the jeepney.
